This cozy new pastry shop in Ulsoor, with other branches around town is all about pastries laden with cream

When you aren't in the mood for gourmet, is strictly when you must stop by this newly opened pastry shop in Ulsoor.

Especially at times when you want to soothe a rather persistent sweet tooth. The pastry shop is as modest as any of the chains are with two tables placed along with an exhaustive bakery counter.

The options are many, from a wide range of pastries to snacking options and homemade chocolates. Our pursuit that brought us here was of the sweeter nature and we decided to dig in straight into the desserts.

We ordered for a Butterscotch pastry (R 18) that seemed quite fetching and waiting to be picked. A layered cake, with cream and sponge cake, this one was drizzled with caramelized sugar on top.

The cake was soft and moist, but the cream was a tad too sweet for our palate and didn't give us that heavenly appeasing after taste.

The other tempting option on the counter, urging us to order was the Celebration (R 22). This looked like a modest chocolate cake topped with chocolate sauce and turned out to be just that - unadulterated chocolate.

The piece of cake was moist and gooey and right in its sweetness quotient, vanishing from our plates in a jiffy. We highly recommend this option if you are making a trip around here anytime soon.

There's little one can do to ruin a chocolate cake, so we decided to put the bakery to greater test than that and ordered a Galaxy (R 18).

This was a combination of chocolate and vanilla and layered with moist cream and cake alternately. Topped with vanilla cream, the pastry also had a small pattern on top done in chocolate sauce. The cake was creamy and fulfilling, but too sweet.

All these pastries have to ideally be consumed fresh. We recommend no take-aways as the city heat might ruin the taste. You could also choose from options like burgers, sandwiches and puffs, if you are looking for a quick bite.

Amma's also stocks a range of homemade chocolates in different flavours like orange, mint and pista (R 100 for 100 grams). The bright food colours used in the chocolates though can be a put off and we opted for staying miles away from them.
