If you've grown up on a diet of Marvel, DC or even Archie’s comics, you have, at some point, wished you could come up with a comic of your own. Making this childhood (or current) wish of yours come true this weekend is Abhijeet Kini, the creator of the much-loved local superwoman comic trilogy, Angry Maushi.

At this informal meet-up, Kini will show attendees how to create their own comics. “Comic creation is a field not many are familiar with. I’ll be showing you how I go about creating my comics, deconstructing some of the panels for easier understanding, and, at the end of it, you get to draw something of your own, maybe a simple comic with just three panels.”

Mookish Umbani: He’s a businessman and the owner of Preliance, which signs a deal with Japanese company Pokyo Hoshimo to get an army of the Mangabots to India.

He adds that being good at art is most certainly not a prerequisite. “This is not like art class. The focus is on ideation, not your drawing skills,” he shares.

Rejected Mumbai superheroes: This panel from Angry Maushi features a bunch of rejected Mumbai superheroes, all of whom find mention in the first book. This is a spoof of DC Comics’ Watchmen. Kini has parodied Vasant Dhoble, Sachin Tendulkar, Rakhi Sawant and a generic wannabe superhero called Dr Kandivili, along the lines of Dr Manhattan in Watchmen.

Kini will be launching his latest comic, Fanboys, in the city at this year’s Mumbai ComicCon. He explains, “While Angry Maushi was a mature read and definitely not for kids,

Fanboys is, so to speak, safe. It is about three comic fans who want to make it to a ComicCon, but accidentally land up in Hell.”
