The Rotaract Club of Ramnarain Ruia College is organising a paraplay event tomorrow. Here, anyone is welcome to participate and play sports like Blind Cricket, Sitting Volleyball and Boccia, a precision ball sport. The idea, Vinit Harmalkar, president of the club, says, is to encourage everyone to understand how challenging is the task of the paralympics participants.
“We were discussing about how neglected Paralympics is, and we wanted to do something for our athletes. Once the idea had been rooted, the concept of spreading awareness by the usual means was not enough.
It had to be supported by a different approach in order to make an impact. That’s when the idea of Paraplay came into being,” he says. After the first of Paraplay, there will be a second phase, with athletics and sports events for the
