The event will also showcase Patel’s latest project, titled Apparitions, in the form of a limited edition, self-published book. Apparitions was completed this year and is a portrait of home as experienced over time, virtually (over Skype) as well as remotely. The project questions the role of modern technology in human interaction. The images featured in this exhibition are often pixelated, creating abstractions of colour and form.

How: The images in the exhibition are divided into two sections: Preludes and Uncharted; Preludes is further sub-divided into the Prelude, Interlude and Postlude series. While the prints for the Preludes are made in three sizes and presented on matte photographic paper, the Uncharted series showcases abstract spaces that are deserted and surreal.

Rather than delving on the geographical location, Patel allows viewers to form a relationship with the space within the image and relate to it based on their experiences. The images are made using a Twin Lens Reflex (TLR) camera on 6x6 film and printed on matte Inkjet paper. Patel elaborates, “The title ‘Limbo’ refers to an in-between state, represented by these anonymous spaces and non-spaces. Apparitions, the book that will be launching then, is about being caught in between two places.”
