Vikings: Life and Legend

History buffs have much to cheer as starting today, the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) will be showcasing a children’s film based on the Vikings. Originally from Scandinavia, the Vikings ruled most parts of northern and central Europe for 300 years, starting from the 8th century to the late 11th century. These Scandinavian seafarers, known for their modern longships (longboats), had the whole of Europe reeling under fear as they raided and traded with the entire northern and central Europe. Their period of rule is referred to as the Viking Age.

Deepa Gahlot, Head-Programming, Theatre and Film, NCPA, says, “This is a special film made for children to introduce them to the Viking way of life. It has interviews from people who curated the show at the British Museum, and presents the
history of Vikings in a fun-yet-educational way.”

The film, prdouced by the British Museum, explores everyday life in the Viking Age, the food, the prominent Viking warriors, their methods of warfare; Old Norse, which was the language of the Vikings as well as Viking beliefs. The story unfolds through characters dressed up as Vikings.
