Presented by Benaras-based Kashi Wafta Weaves, helmed by Praneet Bawa and Amita Singh, the exhibit will include sarees in kataan silk, nets, linen, satans and khadi with lehengas, dupattas and ijaars (flared pants). The creation of the Benarasi weave itself is an art where the silk yarn is twisted in different configurations to get the desired texture, be it kataan, chiffon or georgette.
Working with master-weavers in Benaras, the collection features exotic weaves like kinkhwab (literally meaning fabric of dreams), the dam patch, the neem zari, jaals and kanglas, shikargas along with the kardwain, genda phool motif and the classic Benarasi Saturn Tanchoi silk.
Some of the design techniques also find roots in the Mughal era. These include the beautiful Mughal butas, intricate jaals and ganjlas. Keeping in mind the taste of the new-age Indian woman, the designs will be presented in modern silhouettes.
