Take a trip down memory lane with your children, to the time you heard the epics of Indian mythology, with On The Epic Trail tour, at Dr Bhau Daji Lad Museum, Byculla.

Over two hours, participants will delve into some of India’s greatest epics, while listening to thrilling tales and glimpsing numerous characters from the Mahabharata, the Ramayana and Vishnu’s Dashavatars.

The wide collection on display will include dioramas, art objects and clay models, many of which date back to the early 20th century and were prepared under the British curators’ regime, to help understand Indian culture better. “Far from a lecture, this tour will feel more like a storytelling workshop that will explain topics such as how religion evolved and why so many of the customs we follow today exist,” says a curator at the museum.

The tour will be lead by a curatorial team consisting of eight members, all of whom are experts on art history and archaeology. The idea is to get both adults and children involved and keep it as interactive as possible, through an open question and
answer session.

This free tour is one of the several outreach programmes conducted by the museum to educate the public on the country’s rich and colourful history. The museum regularly hosts a variety of tours on different themes in Hindi and English and this session promises to be exciting, engrossing and educational as well.

ON: May 15 AT Dr Bhau Daji Lad Museum, Ambedkar Road, Byculla.
