Fusing two distinct, traditional Classical Indian dance forms is no mean feat. In a performance titled Akshitaha — The Limitless, famous dancers Prashant Shah and Arushi Mudgal will bring together Kathak and Odissi.

Shah is a senior disciple of Padma Bhushan Kumudini Lakhia, and one of the few critically acclaimed male Kathak performers/choreographers, while Mudgal was born into a family of musicians and started formally learning Odissi dance, at the age of five, from her aunt and guru Madhavi Mudgal.

The show is an attempt to search new dimensions within one art form, while relating them to the similarities and contrasts of the other.

"These rich traditions, though ancient in terms of origin, have the immense capacity of limitless possibilities and explorations," say Shah and Mudgal in unison.

"For us, the attempt of collaborating is not for the purpose of making a statement, but to push our own creative limits.

The idea is to present our existing traditional vocabulary with new aesthetic dimensions by exploring the rich grammar of each other's art forms. Let's not set the limit," they add.
