After gaining 10 kilos to play Bihari politician in Maharani, Sohum Shah adopts rigorous workout to attain lean frame for Silent

It will take Sohum Shah more than script readings to prep for his next, Silent. First things first, he will have to shed close to 10 kilos that he had piled on for Maharani. The actor plays a Bihari politician, which is reportedly modelled on former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, in the web series. “Gaining weight is easy; you just have to keep eating, but losing the kilos becomes difficult. I am doing cardio, especially running, to lose the [excess] weight. I need to [achieve] a lean frame for my silent film. There are no dialogues, so I’ll have to communicate through my body. I am also learning dance for the film,” says the actor.

It has been only a few weeks since he stepped out of the universe of the SonyLIV drama, and Shah is eager to see the audience reaction to his politician act. “It was a tough character to pull off [as I had] to understand his psyche. My character also has swag. Your body language changes as soon as you put on the kilos. [The weight gain] helped me perfect the required posture,” says Shah, who had a recent release in The Big Bull. He isn’t perturbed by the mixed response to the Abhishek Bachchan-starrer. “Constructive criticism is important for an actor’s growth. I read all the reviews and try to improve [myself].”
