Karan Johar, an ardent fan of 'Bigg Boss', turns host for reality show’s OTT property while Salman Khan fronts TV gig

Over the years, 'Bigg Boss' has become wildly popular as much for the controversies it has spawned as for its superstar host Salman Khan. Now, as the reality show looks to spread its wings in digital entertainment, there has been an interesting addition to the proceedings. Filmmaker Karan Johar will turn host for Bigg Boss OTT that will premiere on Voot Select on August 8. Khan’s fans have no reason to be disappointed as he’ll continue to host the television series that will air six weeks later.

A source reveals that the OTT property has been designed as a precursor of sorts. "Once the contestants enter the Bigg Boss house, they will be put through rigorous tasks, daily chores and eliminations. In the six-week runtime, Karan — along with the audience — will choose the best of the lot, who will proceed further to the television show where they will be joined by Khan and other wild card entries," explains the source.
Johar’s razor-sharp wit and cheeky humour will be a contrast to Khan’s scathing remarks, dreaded by the housemates. The filmmaker says that in hosting the show, he will realise mother Hiroo Johar’s long-standing dream. "My mom and I are huge fans of the show, and wouldn’t miss it even for a day. I have enjoyed hosting shows, and now with Bigg Boss OTT, [the drama] will surely be over-the-top. I hope I can make Weekend Ka Vaar an enjoyable affair in my own style, and up the entertainment quotient."
