In the running for Best Supporting Actor trophy at Hitlist OTT Awards, Dino Morea on how his career got a boost after The Empire

Dino Morea: I finally got the recognition I wanted

Morea plays Shaybani Khan in the show

Dino Morea has an unusual way of approaching his characters. He associates an animal with each role, infusing the qualities of the chosen beast into the part. When playing the ruthless Muhammad Shaybani Khan for The Empire (2021), Morea knew the qualities he had to channel. “For me, Shaybani Khan was a black panther. He had to be regal and good-looking, but you can’t predict his next move,” says the actor. His fierce rendition has won him a Best Supporting Actor (Male): Series nomination at the mid-day and Radio City Hitlist OTT Awards.

After making his debut with Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi (1999), Morea soon hit a slump. He hopes The Empire will mark the beginning of a new chapter. “I finally got the recognition I wanted. It’s fulfilling that people are taking notice of me.”
