Miss World Bulgaria Margo Cooper says that mental health has always been a priority for her. Margo, who recently made her music video debut with the song, 'Aasman', says that she makes sure to take things slow whenever she feels overwhelmed or low. “The most crucial thing is to listen to yourself, to understand, and to admit the way you feel. I think also talking to someone who loves you is very helpful. But many people prefer to keep everything inside and then the chances to collapse are very high. When I feel anxious or when I am close to an emotional breakdown, I just slow down. I like to indulge in sports and dancing because at these moments you just have to focus on what you are doing and be present. I meditate a lot. Also, I just try to change the direction of my thoughts and notice good things around me, finding things I’m grateful for,” she says.

She adds, “I’m talking to my close friends, I do the things I usually enjoy, I go for a massage, meditate, and pray. I try to prevent rather than cure so every day I do things that make me more conscious, present, and calm". She says that today there is still a lot of awareness about mental health issues, but a lot more needs to be done. “Despite the fact that since the last five years, people hear and talk more about mental health, still not so many people are aware of what exactly to do, how they can help themselves and others, and where to get help. Also, I have a feeling that people think that they can function with these problems and they don’t prioritize it,’ she says.


 It is believed that showbiz and it’s uncertainty makes people prone to depression. Talking about the same, she says, “I think any creative person who is part of this industry, chose a very unstable life which is pretty much like turbulence where ups and downs happen constantly. Also, you never know if people are going to like you and what you are doing. It’s a life in an artificial world and you let people judge and compare you to others when you become a public person. Sometimes public personalities just hide their pain under the mask of happiness because they don’t want to be weak and they can end up very lonely and depressed. “I don’t think it’s more or less for any industry. Because everyone has responsibilities in life and you never know what another person is going mentally through. I think public people who talk about their mental health issues and struggles, normalise it in society. It’s so important that people know that all of us can suffer in the same way, not based on looks, social status, and background.”
