Singer-actor Amit Tandon recently put up a cover version of the song ‘Dil Ko Karaar Aaya’, the video of that features the late Sidharth Shukla and Neha Sharma. However, he ended up being majorly trolled by Sidharth’s fans who accused him of using the late actor for publicity. Amit speaks to mid-day.com and shares his thoughts.

The unexpected trolling for ‘Dil Ko Karaar Aaya’ must have come as a shock…
I had been doing covers since the last few months and 20-25 songs are out already. The song was not a tribute to Sidharth. I wasn’t very close to him and only met him a few times. I tagged Sidharth Shukla and Shehnaaz Gill because their fans would associate with the song in a different way. The idea was that even a small memory would bring a smile on their faces. Instead, here I got at least a 1000 DMs abusing me and even my daughter. All jokes aside while 60 percent nasty, there were others who said they loved the song and I shouldn’t listen to trolls. I’ve given tributes to Rishi Kapoor and Rajesh Khanna who are bigger stars but no one reacted this way. People told me I’m trending but I have no interest in trending for something like this! If people abuse me, I will speak up. If you give me love, I will love you back. Now people close to me have made me promise I won’t give attention to any more trolls. In fact when Sidharth was in Bigg Boss, I was more in favour of Asim Riaz, so gaaliyan padna waise bhi expected hi tha.

Shehnaaz herself received a lot of unexpected trolling for her song for ‘Tu Yaheen Hai’…
This is coming from people who didn’t even know Sidharth. She gave a part of her life to Sidharth, how can you question her? May be it’s her way of expressing herself. He was a son, brother and so much more, you wouldn’t wish such a thing for anyone. Just let her be and grieve how she wants to.

There are rumours of you entering Bigg Boss…
It’s a different experience and it’s been on my mind, but no, I am not entering.  Every year my name pops up, things don’t materialise. I am a different kind of person and I would be competing with myself. I’m not one who mixes with the crew, but here I wouldn’t have a choice… Ho sakta hai logon ko mera kuch zyada hi alag roop dikh jaaye.

Are you following Bigg Boss 15, what are your thoughts about it?
I have to be honest, I find it boring. I want to know exactly how casting was done. Even last season, Rakhi Sawant saved the show, but even she can’t save this season. Pratik, although negative, has the desire to win by hook or by crook. He can be very childish, but at least he has a fire in him. You can’t just bring Splitsvilla contestants and expect them to run the show without knowing their real personalities.

What’s next for you?
Besides my music channel, I’m working on a lot of original content and filming their videos. Once an actor, always an actor. I’m open to exploring a different medium like OTT next.
