Much before emerging as the winner of 'Bigg Boss 14', television actress Rubina Dilaik rose to fame as 'Soumya' with 'Shakti - Astitva Ek Ehsaas Ki'. The show made a mark with its slant at breaking stereotypes and showcasing the struggles of a 'kinnar', or transgender. As Shakti completes 5 glorious years on air, Rubina talks about her journey so far with the show.

"Shakti gave my career a second chance and this show drastically changed my career graph. Shakti helped me build myself as an actor in many ways, and helped me showcase my versatility as an actor and a performer. Shakti gave me so much recognition and fame that people actually went back a good 6 -7 years to see the kind of work I had been a part of back then. So yes, Shakti helped me change my life in a bigger and better way," shares Rubina.

Speaking about her strong connection with 'Soumya', Rubina shares, "I am very attached to my character Soumya. The role has emotionally and mentally connected so well with me that I don't have to act it out, but I instead just portray it and there truly is a huge difference between the two. Playing the character always came out of natural instinct and right from within my heart to me.

In December 2019, Dilaik had quit the show after being a part of it for four years. A generation leap, and the introduction of new characters had left her with little to do. In March 2021, Rubina was back on the show. Kasautii Zindagii Ki fame actor Cezanne Khan also entered the show as her love interest Harman.

'Shakti: Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki' has been one of the pathbreaking shows on television that very aesthetically portrayed the story of a 'kinnar' and showcased the lesser-known side of the community. The show airs on Colors TV.
