Mahabharat actor Nitish Bharadwaj has announced his separation from wife Smita Gate after 12 years of marriage. Speaking to Times of India, he stated, “Yes, I filed for a divorce in the Family Court in Mumbai in September 2019. I do not want to get into the reasons why we separated. The matter is in court right now. All I can say is that sometimes divorce can be more painful than death as you live with an amputated core.”

He added, “I am a firm believer in the institution, but I have been unlucky. Generally, the reasons for the breakdown of a marriage can be infinite, sometimes it’s because of an uncompromising attitude or lack of compassion or it could be a result of ego and self-centred thinking. But it’s the children who suffer the most when a family breaks down.”
The actor, back in 2020, went down memory lane and recalled how actresses Hema Malini and Roopa Ganguly were left surprised by his look in "Vishnu Puran". Nitish had played the different avatars of Lord Vishnu in the 2000 TV show "Vishnu Puran".
Recalling an incident, the actor mentioned, "I remember one time, when the scenes of Lord Parshurama were being shot and those episodes had not gone on air yet, I was sitting on the sets of 'Vishnu Puran' in proper avatar. Roopa Ganguly, who at that time was pursuing her career in Bengali cinema, had come to Mumbai to meet Ravi Chopra and me."
