Bestselling author and screenwriter Durjoy Datta joins mid-day.com as he takes  a trip down memory lane on Children’s Day.

What are your most precious memories as a child?
I remember the evening strolls which were just another way of saying my sister and I would get ice candies. The times electricity would go out and it would mean play time would be extended by a few hours. I remember the weekends which meant cartoons, and since there weren't many to watch we used to look forward to that. Also, cricket practice after school hours, the lunch breaks which were essentially keenly contested football matches.

Things that you enjoyed as a child and miss now or would like to do again?
I miss the inter-school, intra-school sport competitions the most. I have vivid memories of a lot of them and would love to feel that rush of adrenaline once more.

What did you dream of becoming when you grew up?
It's was a strange dream. I always wanted to be a government employee because my understanding at the time was that their job description is to chill sincerely and endlessly. That's all i wanted to do: to do nothing the entire day. As a writer, I think I have achieved a part of it. I drink coffee and think about writing and don't get any writing done.
