Abhinav Shukla on World Earth Day: 'Saving the planet' is saving our own selves

Abhinav with Vidisha and Vidut

Actor Abhinav Shukla, known for his love for nature, joins mid-day.com on World Earth Day for a special conversation.

The actor says, "When people say ‘save the planet Earth’ they actually mean save ourselves. The Earth has been here much before we came and will stay long after we are wiped out. Its a self correcting or regenerating  system. Secondly, we must admit by 'saving the planet' we mean saving our own selves. Lets start with the number one factor that's causing soil degradation:  over consumption of everything, Food, minerals and resources. Then we can come to micro contributors which are numerous . So long story short, consumerism, population and greed are the  enemies of this small ecosystem we live in. I try to be a minimalist, spread awareness on not disturbing our ecosystem but still we all are contributing towards nature degradation. The only people who are living in accordance with nature are the Tribals. They deserve all the credit!"

Abhinav adds that his nephew and niece, Vidut and Vidisha are being taught to protect nature since a young age. "They are my two little nature lovers . We are teaching them resourcefulness, minimalism and living off the forest. Every-time they go trekking they carry their own backpack , walk or trek all the way eat what ever little we cook !"
