Babita Kumari on how the protagonist of the show Badho Bahu she features in promotes the ideologies she backs
Releasing only a year after Aamir Khan's wrestler biopic, Dangal, created waves globally, TV show Badho Bahu is set to feature wrestling champion Babita Kumari Phogat in a special appearance. Phogat, who was among the inspirations for the creation of Dangal, says the subject of the show appealed to her.

"The concept interested me. It is based in Haryana, which, for me, is home. Also, I find Badho [played by Rytasha Rathore] inspiring. I believe [such characters] are instrumental in bringing about a change in society. I want to get out and motivate young girls; encourage them to be bigger and better versions of themselves. They should persevere, instead of giving into societal pressures. Lastly, the show is about wrestling, a sport synonymous to me."
That the protagonist battles all odds and societal pressures to peruse her dreams, is noteworthy, says Phogat. "There seems to be a karmic connection between our stories. The community is against Badho, which was the case for our family as well. Not only the struggles, but also Badho's determination, perseverance, and willingness to succeed are qualities I have too." While she isn't against the concept of marriage, Phogat says the association shouldn't be the sole aim of a woman, as society portrays it to be. Ask her about her experience of shooting for a daily, and she says, "The unit was warm, despite the long hours of shooting."
