Raksha Bandhan is a popular Hindi festival where sisters of all ages tie rakhi on their brothers wrist while they receive a gift in return. This is a festival that celebrates the bond of a brother and sister with a promise to protect each other.


With Raksha Bandhan around the corner, here are some Tamil and Malayalam films that you can watch with your sibling:. 


TAMIL:


Annaatthe: 

Released in 2021, this Rajinikanth, Keerthy Suresh and Nayanthara-starerr makes for a great watch on Raksha Bandhan. Kaalaiyan's life revolves around his sister Thanga Meenatchi whom he raised after the death of their parents. Meenatchi elopes with a man and lands in trouble but does not inform her brother. However, Kaalaiyan follows her to Kolkata and solves her issues quietly. 

Thiruppaachi: 

When Sivagiri's (Vijay) sister Karpagam gets assaulted by goons, he takes it on him to deal with the rowdies and also make the city more safer for his sister and other women. Released in 2005, the film stars Vijay, Mallika, and Trisha Krishnan among others. 

Vedalam : 

Ganesh (Ajith) moves to Kolkata with his sister Thamizh (Lakshmi Menon) when she expresses her desire to move to the city for higher education. Ganesh takes up the job of an auto driver. It is later revealed that Thamizh is not his real sister but a victim of human trafficking rescued by Ganesh. Later on, his real identity comes in the front when he lands in a situation with criminals.

Ponniyin Selvan 1: 

Sensing an uprising in the capital, Crown Prince Aditha Karikalan sends his friend Vallavaraiyan Vandiyadevan on a mission that sets off a series of conspiracies against the reigning king. The fim centers around  Emperor Sundara Chozhar of the Chola Dynasty and his kids-  Aditha Karikalan and Arulmozhi Varman, and Princes Kundavai. the film was released in two parts and is currently available on Prime Video. 

MALAYALAM:

Koode

Following the loss of his sister Jenny, a young man named Joshua is forced to reflect on his childhood and reassess his future. However, he finds support and courage from unexpected quarters. The film directed by Anjali Menon stars Prithviraj and Nazriya as siblings. The film also stars Parvathy and Roshan Mathew in pivotal roles. The film is currently streaming on Disney+Hotstar. 

Bangalore Days: 

Cousins, Divya, Kuttan and Arjun, fulfil their childhood dream of relocating to Bangalore. As they embrace the warmth of the city, they also face challenges that transform their lives. This feel good film stars Nivin Pauly, Dulquer Salmaan, Nazriya Nazim, Fahadh Faasil, Parvathy and Nithya Menen. The film is available to stream on Disney+Hotstar. 

Hitler: 

Madhavan, an eligible bachelor, is very protective of his five sisters. However, things take an ugly turn for Madhavan when his sisters turn against him and fail to understand his love for them. The film was the highest grossing Malayalam film at that time. The film was remade in Telugu under Hitler (1997), in Hindi as Krodh (2000), in Tamil as Military (2003), and in Kannada as Varsha (2005). The Malayalam version is available to stream on Prime Video. 

Chronic Bachelor: 

After Hitler, director Siddique and actor Mammootty reunited for this film that has sibling bond at its core. Mammootty as Sathyaprathapan a.k.a. SP is a serious man and considered to be an eligible bachelor. Through the course of the film, his past life is unveiled and why he is sponsoring the education of a young lady anonymously. Watch the film on prime Video.
