Kaithi, released on October 25, 2019, marked the beginning of Lokesh Cinematic Universe. The film revolved around Dilli, an ex-convict. He hasn't met his daughter and the only task on his mind post his jail tenure was to meet her for the first time. However, the wait was long as an Inspector sought his help to bust a drugs racket. The action thriller had several open endings, hinting at multiple sequels in the future. Before Kaithi, Lokesh directed Maanagaram which was also commercially successful. With Kaithi, he opened the gates to the LCU.
Kaithi was remade in Hindi. The film, titled Bholaa, was headlined by Ajay Devgn. It released in March this year. The Hindi version failed to live up to the original. The climax of Bholaa hinted at a sequel which might be headlined by Abhishek Bachchan. While not much about Bholaa 2 is known, fans of Kaithi are excited for its sequel.
Bringing new characters and fresh stories to the table, Lokesh introduced characters like Vikram (Kamal Haasan), Sandhanam (Vijay Sethupathi) and Amar (Fahadh Faasil) in 2022's blockbuster, Vikram. Being the second film in the LCU, it was also a treat to fans of Kaithi who drew connections between both films. Vikram was set 3 months after the events of Kaithi. It showed the story of a masked vigilante and the chase around him and the antagonist. Just like every Lokesh Kanagaraj film, Vikram had ample cinematic moments, grandeur and of course, fan service. When it is Lokesh, how can the audience be disappointed? At the end of Vikram, the filmmaker introduced Suriya as Rolex. His character will be explored further.
With the release of Vijay's Leo, the Lokesh Cinematic Universe grows and how. Thalapathy makes a grand and heroic entry with the much-awaited film. The Lokesh directorial released globally in Tamil predominantly. Sanjay Dutt plays the antagonist in the thriller which has several references merged with the plot. The story of Leo shall continue and a crossover film with Dilli and Vikram is one of the future possibilities.
