Veteran Telugu actor Chalapathi Rao's offensive comment that women are only fit to be good partners in bed has caused an uproar and he has landed in trouble with the Hyderabad police. The cops on Tuesday booked Chalapathi Rao for allegedly making derogatory comments about women. The actor has since apologised for his comments saying he held women in high regard.
It all started when Chalapathi Rao allegedly remarked that women are only fit to be good partners in bed. He made the comments at the audio launch of Nagarjuna's son Naga Chaitanya's upcoming Telugu film 'Rarandoi Veduka Chuddam' on Sunday.
He had made the remarks when one of the two anchors at Sunday's programme went round to the VIPs, seeking their opinion if girls are a disturbance to mental peace, which is the tagline of the movie.
Chalapathi Rao replied saying, "What can I say if you ask like that? Women are not disturbance to peace. But, are useful to sleep with."
His remarks went viral on social media and he faced flak from netizens.
Police said a case was registered against him at Saroornagar police station under Rachakonda police commissionerate on a complaint by women's organisations.
The actor, who made the comments about women at a film function in Hyderabad on Sunday, was booked under sections 354A (4) and 509 of the Indian Penal Code.
Earlier in the day, women's organisations lodged a complaint against Chalapathi Rao with the Jubilee Hills police station in Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, Chalapathi Rao, who has played negative roles in his four-decade long career, while speaking to a TV channel on Tuesday, tendered an apology and clarified that he has high respect for women.
