It seems to be India’s year at the global entertainment arena. After the Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice Awards win of Naatu naatu, RRR, along with Oscar nominations for The Elephant Whisperers and All That Breathes, Indian music composer and producer Ricky Kej clinched the honour at the recently concluded Grammy Awards. The composer picked up his career’s third Grammy for Divine Tides, which was nominated in the Best Immersive Audio Album category.

The album Divine Tides is a collaborative project with rock-legend and Police drummer Stewart Copeland. It earned Kej the Grammy title last year as well. In a statement shared with the media, the music composer said: “It feels absolutely surreal to win the biggest prize in music again for the third time. I am extremely grateful to have had another opportunity to make my country India proud by achieving this on the biggest platform in the world for music. I’d like to thank the Recording Academy for this honour, my collaborators Stewart Copeland, Herbert Waltl, Eric Schilling, and everyone else who made this album possible.”

Divine Tides is a nine-song album that aims to deliver the message that each individual’s life plays a crucial role in maintaining the balance that serves all equally. Other winners of the night included Beyonce, who is now the artiste with the most Grammy wins of all time, after breaking the record of late conductor Georg Solti, who held the position since his 1997 win took his tally to 31. Bey’s four wins at Sunday’s gala, including Best Dance/Electronic Album, Best R&B Song, and Best Dance/Electronic Recording and Traditional R&B performance, took her tally to 32.

Harry Styles picked up the Album of the Year award, Lizzo won Record of the Year, and Bonnie Raitt got a truly unforeseen win for Song of the Year. Lizzo dedicated her award to the late artist Prince. “When we lost Prince, I decided to dedicate my life to creating positive music. I’d like to believe that not only can people do good, but that we just are good. And anybody at home who feels misunderstood or on the outside looking in like I did, just stay true to yourself. I promise you you’ll attract people who believe in you,” she said.
