Dame Judi Dench

Dame Judi Dench recently revealed that she is planning to retire from acting amid her battles with weak eyesight. The veteran English actor, who was last seen in Spirited (2020), told a news outlet that she has no future acting projects in the pipeline, and added, “No, no, I can’t even see!” When the publication sought a clarification on Dench’s comments, her agent maintained that there was nothing more to say. “Judi has nothing more to add than whatever she has already mentioned,” he said.

During a television interview a couple of years ago, the actor had said that she has no plans to retire from acting. “I don’t want to retire. I’m not doing much at the moment because I can’t see. It’s bad,” she had said. The 89-year-old actor, who played MI6 boss M to Daniel Craig’s James Bond, revealed that she couldn’t see the food on her plate when she went out dining with partner David Mills at the time. “He cut it up and handed something to me on a fork and that’s the way I ate it,” she recalled.
