This sequel basically follows up on the events of the first film, showing Surly and his friends attempting to stop Oakton City's mayor from destroying their home in order to make way for a dysfunctional amusement park.

"The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature" comes from the lowest rung of Hollywood's animation hierarchy and it's much worse than the first outing which basically adapted Scrat's single-minded pursuit of his acorn (in the "Ice Age") to suit Surly Squirrel's(Will Arnet) food needs. Here Surly and his posse of chipmunks, groundhogs, moles, woodchucks, beavers and mice spend their days in the quaint town of Oakton City, gorging on an endless stash of shell-bearing legumes in the basement of the Nut Shop.

Andie(Katherine Heigl) wants them to be disciplined and hard working instead of living the easy life and it's only when the Nut Shop blows up that they learn their lesson-the hard way of course. There's a lesson in it somewhere but it never really comes across. The animation is definitely not a work of art, the tone is enervating and the writing is severely compromised. This one is louder, grosser, more inane and has no humour to boot.
