Several Hollywood actors have paid a heavy price for performing their own stunts in their films

Stunts in Hollywood films that went horribly wrong

Brad Pitt in Troy (2004)

As far as the American film industry is concerned, having body doubles isn’t something every actor would be up for. Even a self-admittedly “always scared” person like Scarlett Johansson doesn’t think twice before performing her own stunts.

After all, action sequences provide an actor the chance to prove his/her stealth and experience — not to forget the adrenaline rush that goes with it — on the set. But taking this heavy risk and performing death-defying moves is something that comes with a great deal of uncertainty. Some have even ended up at the hospital.

hitlist takes you through some stunts that went horribly wrong.

Brad Pitt
Movie: Troy (2004)

Brad Pitt

Lowdown: How ironical is it an actor who plays the role of Achilles ends up tearing his Achilles tendon during the shoot. Remember that epic battle sequence between him and Eric Bana’s character in the film? That was when Brad injured himself. It took the filmmakers four months to complete the sequence as Brad had to recuperate from the injury.

Jason Statham
Movie: The Expendables 3 (2014)

Jason Statham

Lowdown: Jason along with his co-star Terry Crews was in a truck where he was supposed to stop the vehicle, get down and start gunfire. But the truck failed to halt. Instead, it went straight over the road into the sea with Jason on the driver’s seat. True to his well-cultivated image, the hurt actor swam back to the set!

Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Movie: Premium Rush (2012)

Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Lowdown: When actors smash into glass in a movie, the props are made up of sugar so as to avoid bodily harm. Unfortunately, when Joseph crashed into the back of a taxi’s window during the shooting, the taxi was real and so was the glass. The cut he suffered on his right arm required 31 stitches and left the cabbie driver with a story.

Ryan Reynolds
Movie: The Green Lantern (2011)

Ryan Reynolds

Lowdown: During a fight sequence in this action movies, Ryan heard something pop. Turned out, it was his own shoulder! Instead of asking for help, he simply forced his shoulder back into the body and continued with the scene. Perhaps the actor took the superhero bit way too seriously. “Lamest superpower of all time,” he
described the event later.

Halle Berry
Movie: X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)

Halle Berry

Lowdown: Halle suffered a minor head injury while shooting a fight sequence on the set. She was taken to the hospital as a precaution, but she checked out healthy and was released. This wasn’t the first time — and presumably not the last either — Halle has gotten hurt on set. She broke her foot in Spain on the set of Cloud Atlas (2012).

Johnny Depp
Movie: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011)

Johnny Depp

Lowdown: Johnny took a three-week leave following a back injury. He described the fall as “It was this horrible, grinding electricity going through me… but I kept shooting; there was no choice. I’d just limp on the sets. It was monstrous, man, so horrible that I actually started to like it! But I got used to it and kind of missed it when it was gone.”
