The 47-year-old actress is reportedly circling a role that would see her play the equivalent of Brad Pitt's character, Rusty, reported Digital Spy.
Sandra Bullock has already been confirmed to lead the cast as the Danny Ocean character, originally played by George Clooney.
The roles are not direct copies of Rusty and Danny but instead Bullock and Blanchett's characters' relationship will be inspired by that depicted by Clooney and Pitt.
Gary Ross is slated to direct after developing the idea and approaching original director Steven Soderburgh.
Ross's involvement could also mean an appearance by his longtime collaborator Jennifer Lawrence, with rumours that the actress may sign on already circulating.
Currently the project is being referred to as "Ocean's Ocho" - implying we can expect a gang of eight to be behind the heist.
It will follow in the mould of the all-female "Ghostbusters" reboot.
