What about the fact that The Green Hornet is an action movie but you don't get to shoot a gun?
I know, I don't even get to drive a car! You know, to tell you the truth, my part in this was so minimal that I couldn't really figure out how it was going to work. The scenes in the office, for instance. I could have been at the office when the car busts through.
Would you want to play a female superhero one day?
I'll tell you, I don't want to play one with supernatural powers because that kind of acting is a pain in the ass. You spend your whole day pretending to do something against a green screen, and it's just not how I want to spend my afternoon.u00a0 I would rather do something that's real, like, physically. When I was a child growing up, my hero was Indiana Jones, and I loved how active he was. I loved that he was a true hero. He was digging up the treasure, he was rescuing the girl, who was also rescuing him; that to me was an adventure. I want to make movies like that.
Like the one you did with Tom Cruise?
Yeah, that was fun.u00a0
What does a man have to do to sweep you off your feet?
Hmmm. I think that's the wonderful thing about life, you never know what it's going to be that captures your
attention.
Can you talk about the current man who has captured your attention?
No comment.
There's a lot of pain in this movie. How do you get through pain in your own life?
I believe that pain is temporary, that's how I get through pain. Being hurt and being injured are two totally different things. Nobody wants to be injured. You never want to be injured, but after being hurt, you can get up and walk it off. That's all you can hope for.
Is there something you need to get through the day?u00a0 Coffee, for example?
I drink a lot of water and I eat a lot. I consider that to be my fuel intake. I eat a lot more when I'm filming but I eat a lot anyhow. I'm just constantly eating. It's just a fuel thing. I'm burning so much energy doing what I'm doing in a movie like this, even if we are just sitting on set, we're talking about the next scene and you're burning energy. So, I try to have the right kinds of food that I can eat throughout the day.u00a0
So, you have to train to get off the weight?
Well, that's why I eat. I have a really good metabolism rate. I wish it was a little lower, actually. Sometimes, I want to put weight on but I can't, that's my burden.u00a0
Do you like to cook?
I love to cook, I love, love, love to cook. I cook all the time, every day.u00a0
What's your specialty?
Food.
What's your signature dish?
I love breakfast. I love to cook breakfast and I like hearty, savoury breakfasts. I don't make pancakes, but eggs, I can do eggs. I can do a lot of eggs, and eggs can be ufffd. like anybody who cooks eggs knows, they are the trickiest things.u00a0
Would you like to be a superhero?
Well, it's a big responsibility. I mean I'd have to spend every night looking for criminals. I wouldn't sleep as much. I probably wouldn't be able to get my nails done. I would get some bruises, possibly ufffd
How about supernatural abilities then?
Oh, I have those.u00a0
Do you find self-confidence sexy in a guy?
It depends on what part of the ego it's driven by. If it's a real lack of self-confidence, that part of the ego is not so sexy, but the part of somebody who is fearless and who really has a belief in himself because he feels capable, is very sexy.
Are you fearless?
No, I'm scared of a lot of things.u00a0
For example?
A wave that's overhead I'm not so excited about. I'd like to get tubed one day.
Did you like the fact that there was no love story for you in the movie?
No actually, I campaigned for that. It can be the hardest thing to find a resolve to, or to clean up at the end of a story of a movie and that's often what ruins movies. And also it's not always fun or interesting.
How would you describe your sense of humour?
I'm all over the board and I find a lot of things funny. I have a very eclectic sense of humour. I like dark, twisted humour but I also like light, fluffy humour.
Do you have any taboos when it comes to humour?
No, actually. The thing that I don't like is if somebody can't laugh at themselves. I believe that you can't make fun of anyone, unless you can make fun of yourself. So, I don't like people who can make a joke at someone else's expense, and not be able to take the joke. That's why one of the jokes in the movie, where Seth is telling me I'm old because I'm 36 years old, and he can't believe that I'm that old. It just makes me laugh because I have to laugh at the fact that that is something that people would think. And I can take that joke. I don't have to take myself seriously. People who can't laugh at themselves, that's something I don't appreciate at all.
But was there a time you wanted to get away from that, when you shot Gangs of New York, for example?
No, I enjoy everything. I love all aspects of being human, and I like telling stories. That's the gift of what we do as actors. I like to take part of as many aspects of that as I can ufffd whether it's being a mother of a child who's dying of cancer, or being a girl who puts sperm in her hair, unknowingly.u00a0 Because I am sure there are a lot of girls out there who have put sperm in their hair unknowingly.u00a0
So, you were never afraid of being limited to being 'the funny girl' only?
No, I don't worry about that. If you are trying to please everyone, you are not pleasing yourself. And I am very happy with my experience in life. I have an amazing life that I am so grateful for every day, so why would I knock myself down?u00a0 Why would I take anything away from my own experience?u00a0
