Yami Gautam Dhar notes that like many, her understanding of the Indian Constitution’s Article 370 and its abrogation in 2019 came from news. That, however, changed when the script of Aditya Suhas Jambhale’s directorial venture, Article 370, came her way. She believes the political thriller, which traces the events around the revocation of Jammu & Kashmir’s special status, gave her a deeper insight into how the operation was pulled off. “We understood what [the abrogation] meant going by the information that was out in the news. But how the team pulled it off so efficiently and confidentially, what different levels of expertise and which departments were involved— all this was new to me,” says the actor, who plays an intelligence officer in today’s release.

Gautam is aware that the film might elicit a divided response. But having shot it in Kashmir last year, she maintains that she has seen the on-ground change. “There were so many tourists that it led to traffic jams. There is a boom in the tourism industry. When my team went out sight-seeing and for shikara rides, the locals told them that it has been peaceful over the last three-four years. There have been no stone-pelting incidents. That said, there will be some who will think otherwise,” shares Gautam, whose next is Dhoom Dhaam opposite Pratik Gandhi.
