The end credits of Ranveer Singh’s Simmba led to the announcement of Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi, with director Rohit Shetty the common link. Kumar’s cop-drama, that also stars Singh as Simmba and Ajay Devgn as Singham, was slated to hit the screens last year on Guddi Padwa but was postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The government has now permitted 100% occupancy in cinemas and this could be a sigh of relief for all the films that were long due for a release, and this one being one of them. A source says to Bollywood Hungama that it could arrive on April 2 this year. “Rohit Shetty is leading the discussion with the theatre owners. Co-producer Reliance Entertainment is also a part of these meetings,” the source said.

It added, “The makers want to solve all the issues cropping up like payment of VPF (virtual print fee), revenue sharing, shortening of the window between OTT and theatrical release, etc. with the exhibitors. They are confident that there would soon be a consensus over these issues.”

Talking about the official announcement of the release, the source revealed, “The team plans to announce the release date in a grand fashion. It'll surely be something to watch out for. After all, this is the first BIG film of Bollywood to release post-lockdown. The team of the film is going to pull out all the stops to ensure that enough buzz is generated about the release of the film.”

It continued, “It’s expected to happen next week. It won’t be surprising if the announcement takes place on the 9th, which is, Akshay Kumar’s lucky number!” The film has an army of villains that include Jackie Shroff, Nikitin Dheer, Abhimanyu Singh, and Sikandar Kher.
