When working with Vishal Bhardwaj, one has to prep intensely before reporting to the set. Wamiqa Gabbi knew this well, having collaborated with the director on his segment in Modern Love Mumbai (2022), and Khufiya. The actor, who leads Bhardwaj’s Fursat, says she had to pick up contemporary dance. “Dance is a form of language that Vishal sir has used in this short film. The brief I got was that irrespective of where I stand [when dancing with the troupe], everyone should look like each other’s mirror image. That meant our timing had to be bang-on,” says Gabbi.

She trained in the dance form for two weeks with a coach from Shiamak Davar’s team. The actor remembers how she juggled the dance classes with a project in Hyderabad. “I would fly to Mumbai on my days off and rehearse.” Shot by Bhardwaj on an iPhone, Fursat sees Ishaan Khatter play Nishant Raj, who can see the future with the help of a relic called Doordarshak.
