Vijay said at the pre-release event that his crush loved Shah Rukh and through Jawan, he took 'revenge' from the superstar. Makkal Selvan, as he is popular called in the Tamil film industry, shared, "When I was in school, I was in love with a girl. But she didn’t know. Every Jaanu has a Ram after all (a reference to his 2018 film ’96). But that girl was in love with SRK. It has taken these many years to have my revenge."
Shah Rukh reacted to Vijay's revelation. He wittily said, "Everyone here spoke in Tamil and I am sure they all spoke good things about me. Except for Vijay Sethupathi, who was talking about a girl. Let me tell you one thing sir, You can have your revenge but not my girls. They are mine."
Vijay also remembered meeting Shah Rukh in Melbourne. He shared, "I met Shah Rukh Khan in Melbourne. They had seating arrangements and I was looking for mine. I found my seat next to SRK’s. He complimented me and I was shocked. At the after party, he said 'what I said about you was true'. SRK treats people equally." I believe actors should treat people equally so they can treat his characters like that. SRK sir, I always wonder how your brain is working and love the way you answer. Thank you and love you."
Praising director Atlee, he said, "Many people have talked things about Atlee. He took us in flights and bus. I was comfortable working with you. Theri was my fav film. I’d usually like to discuss with directors and I could do it with Atlee. I love the way Atlee executes the film. I never expected it."
Jawan also stars Nayanthara, Priyamani, Ridhi Dogra and Sunil Grover. Deepika Padukone is making a special appearance. It is a Red Chillies Entertainment production directed by Atlee and co-produced by Gauri Khan and Gaurav Verma. The film will be released in theatres globally on September 7, 2023, in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
