The official Instagram handle of The Academy took Indian netizens by surprise when they posted a video of the song 'Mehndi Laga Ke Rakhna' from the movie 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. The 1995 movie directed by Aditya Chopra is an iconic film in the history of Indian cinema and the Maratha Mandir in Mumbai still plays the movie on the big screen.
The Academy on Saturday took to their Instagram feed to share a small clip of SRK and Kajol from the wedding song 'Mehndi Laga Ke Rakhna' from the movie Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. Sharing the video, The Academy wrote, "Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol performing the classic song "Mehndi Laga Ke Rakhna" from 1995's 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.'

Soon after the post, Indian netizens who were taken by surprise took to the comment section to express their excitement and shock.
"Shah Rukh Khan - the face of Indian Cinema,"commented a user.
Another user wrote, "Mind you they had a theatre playing almost housefull shows of DDLJ everyday for straight 25 years. You don’t disrespect that iconic legacy"

Another fan noted, "Maybe Dunki is going to the Oscars. SRK, please make more films like Dil Se Swades Chak De MNIK. So Oscar can give you your due recognition".
A user commented, "Most of the people who are saying Academy is running out of content... they r forgetting academy honours any kind of movies around the world. Not only American and British movies. DDLJ is a cult classic. It's honouring post. Don't get so concerned about it".

Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan had the best year at the box office in 2023 with three big blockbusters. Having started the year with the action flick 'Pathaan', the actor followed it up with Atlee's 'Jawan' and Rajkumar Hirani's 'Dunki'. All three films did wonders at the box office.
While the Oscars 2024 is set to take place in March this year, there are reports floating around that SRK's 'Dunki' will be sent to the awards for consideration. The movie which deals with the topic of the donkey route or the illegal entry of Indians in countries like USA, Canada and UK also stars Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal. According to Box Office worldwide, Shah Rukh Khan and Taapsee Pannu-starrer has been submitted for the most prestigious Acadamy Awards 2024. However, an official announcement from the makers and SRK’s team is still awaited.
