Sushmita Sen has been vocal about her choices and decision. She is one of the actresses who never shies away from speaking up for herself. Be it her career choices or personal relationships, Sushmita has inspired people to speak their minds without being worried about judgements. Now, as she promoted her recently released series Taali, the actress spoke to Film Companion about facing the repercussions of being a badass in the industry.

Sushmita said in the interview that people would call her a 'bad influence' in the '90s for being vocal. "There were (repercussions) in the '90s because back then, it was a much more closeted society. So for you to speak your mind and to say anything that you believed in was like, ‘Phew! She is a bad influence, don’t get her in front of our kids and everyone else.'," Sushmita shared.

She further added, "I thought ‘if you take away my freedom to express myself, what freedom do I really have?’ So am I going to scare away from speaking my mind or am I just going to learn it how to say it better, say it nicer? Which I did learn because I think I didn’t have that tact before. Having said that, social media and the world today… everyone has a voice and the world is far more accepting. There is still that ‘haww’ element,' but it is not as bad as the '90s."

Sushmita, who took a break from acting to raise her daughters Renee and Alisah, made a comeback after a decade with the OTT series, Aarya, in 2020. It was her debut show too. The second season of the crime drama came out in 2021. Taali is her third OTT project. She is yet to return to the silver screen.

Sushmita's elder daughter Renee is also an actor. She also lent her voice to the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra in Taali. The recently released series is based on Shreegauri Sawant, a transgender activist from Mumbai, who works for transgender rights. She was also made the goodwill ambassador of the Election Commission in Maharashtra. The web series is produced by Arjun Singgh Baran and Kartik D Nishandar.
