On Wednesday, as the deadline passed for social media platforms to comply with the new rules that the Centre has mandated, several B-Town folk, including Sonakshi Sinha, wondered what would happen if Twitter, Instagram and WhatsApp were banned for not complying with the government’s regulations. Considering social media is an integral part of the daily life of almost all the stars, netizens speculated what they would do without it. The Union Ministry of Electronics and IT has written to the social media platforms, directing them to respond on their compliance to the new digital rules as soon as possible, "preferably today (Thursday)". In its notice to the social media players, the ministry said: "If you are considered as SSMI (significant social media intermediaries), please provide the reasons for the same, including the registered users on each of the services provided by you."
