On Friday, actor-producer Sohail Khan and fashion designer-wife Seema Sachdev Khan filed for divorce at the Family Court in Bandra. The two had tied the knot in 1998 and are parents to Nirvaan, 22, and Yohan, 11. The couple reached the court around 12 noon, appearing before judge Maqdoom on the fourth floor to initiate the verification process that is required for their application. They have yet to finalise the terms and conditions of the divorce that will be granted after a minimum of six months. The duo, who share a friendly equation, left separately after completing the paperwork.

The development comes after years of the two living separately. While the actor stays at Salisbury Park in Pali Hill, Seema and the kids live a stone’s throw away. The two had met when Khan was working on Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya (1998). A friend of the Sachdevs says, “Soon, they fell in love and wanted to get married. Seema’s mother was against the match, so they eloped and tied the knot. The Khans had whole-heartedly welcomed Seema into their fold, and Seema’s mother too warmed up eventually.”

Whispers of all not being well between the couple had surfaced between 2016 and 2017. The source continues, “It was then heard that Salim saab had sat Sohail down, advising him to resolve his differences with Seema.” Recently, on an episode of The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives, the fashion designer had admitted to having an “unconventional marriage”, while emphasising that they were a family at the end of the day.
