The box-office fate of Bunty Aur Babli 2 (2021) was hardly encouraging. But Sharvari Wagh is content with what the comedy did for her. The Forgotten Army (2020) actor, who made her B-Town debut with the Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukerji and Siddhant Chaturvedi-starrer, points out that there has been a distinct shift in how filmmakers perceive her. “Getting meetings is easier post the film. I come from a place where I have seen a long line of auditions. So, I perceive competition and opportunities differently. It was a little unfortunate in terms of the [box-office] numbers, but I received appreciation for my work,” she smiles.

Only a film old, Wagh has bagged a big-ticket project in Maharaja, Siddharth P Malhotra’s directorial venture that marks the Bollywood debut of Aamir Khan’s son Junaid. The period drama is reportedly based on the infamous 1862 Maharaja libel case. She is tight-lipped when probed about the project, only saying, “I have a film with Yash Raj that will hopefully release this year.” However, she admits that she is drawn to historical dramas, a genre that she considers close to her heart after rom-coms. “History intrigues me. I want to do movies that blend mythology and history. Women were portrayed as warriors, and [their characters] had a good blend of charisma and elegance. Stories matter the most to me; I want to do author-backed roles.”
