The movie ‘Adipurush’, featuring Prabhas and Kriti Sanon, is once again in the spotlight, this time due to its sizable budget, coinciding with the triumph of ISRO's Chandrayaan-3 mission. Directed by Om Raut, reports suggest that the film was produced with a whopping budget of Rs 600 crores, a fact that caught attention through a Reddit post. Interestingly, Chandrayaan-3, India's recent lunar exploration achievement, was accomplished with a reported budget of approximately Rs 615 crores.

Amidst India's celebrations of its historic milestone, being the first country to reach the unexplored south pole of the moon, social media witnessed a wave of criticism aimed at the creators of 'Adipurush'. This critique stems from the film's earlier controversy, where it faced backlash for allegedly distorting characters and narratives from the revered Hindu epic Ramayana. While some heavily bashed the film once again some took to Twitter to point out the difference between the two.

Congratulations to @isro. Well #Chandrayaan3 and #adipurush both were made on 600cr budget. And both landed. One successful on the #Moon, whilst other landed flat on the #BoxOfficeIndia. pic.twitter.com/mPnz0oPb0q

It’s also surprising to know that Chandrayaan 3's budget is less than movies like #Adipurush (RS. 700 Crore), #Interstellar (Rs 1,368 Crore), and #TheMartian (Rs 885 Crore).

Rewind to June when the initial uproar over Adipurush ignited. The film adaptation by Om Raut featured Prabhas as Ram, Kriti Sanon as Sita, and Saif Ali Khan as Ravana. However, it sparked massive protests across the nation due to accusations of misrepresenting the sacred text and its characters. These protests captured the public's attention, with demonstrations held outside multiple theaters, and videos of protestors urging for a boycott circulated on social media.
Adding weight to the conversation, the All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA) addressed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging intervention to halt the film's screenings and advocating for an immediate ban on its display in theaters and OTT platforms in the future.
This comparison with the triumphant success of Chandrayaan-3 introduces a thought-provoking perspective.
