On Friday, a post on Poonam Pandey's Instagram handle revealed that the actress had passed away due to cervical cancer. The news came as a shock to her fans. Many speculated whether the news was real or fake, given the actress' controversial past, while others wondered if this was an attempt to generate awareness for cervical cancer.

January was cervical cancer awareness month, and World Cancer Day is on February 4.
A video shared by a showbiz news handle shows that in her last interview, on the red carpet at an event, Poonam had hinted at some big surprise that she was planning for everyone.
"Aapke saamne ek bada news aanewala hai (There's a big news coming your way soon). Mujhe bahut achha lagta hai logon ko surprise karna (I love surprising people). The latest Instagram post on Poonam Pandey's handle, that was shared on Friday morning, read, "This morning is a tough one for us. Deeply saddened to inform you that we have lost our beloved Poonam to cervical cancer. Every living form that ever came in contact with her was met with pure love and kindness. In this time of grief, we would request for privacy while we remember her fondly for all that we shared.”
Her manager issued a statement which said, "Poonam Pandey was not only a luminary in the film industry, but she was also a beacon of strength and resilience." January 2024 was the Cervical Cancer Awareness month. According to the World Health Organisation, Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women.
Poonam was popular on social media for sharing provocative pictures. In 2011, she promised to strip for the Indian cricket team if they brought home the World Cup. She did not keep her promise because she claimed she was denied permission by the BCCI. In 2012, she posed nude after Kolkata Knight Riders won the IPL.
She was last seen in Kangana Ranaut-hosted reality show Lock Upp, where she was competing against Munawar Faruqui, Karanvir Vohra and others.
