Blame it on our bias or his penchant for dark movies, but one couldn’t quite imagine Nawazuddin Siddiqui dancing in the middle of the street for his ladylove. Which is why Baarish ki jaaye, his debut appearance in a music video, comes as a refreshing change of pace. “I have always liked to do things that are out of my comfort zone.

Here, I had to work hard on my moves. However, after we started rehearsing, I soon got comfortable with the steps. I had to practise extensively because dancing should seem effortless on screen. You have to be confident,” says the actor, who plays a local gangster in love with a mentally-challenged woman in the B Praak single.

Now that he is bitten by the dancing bug, Siddiqui expresses his desire to shake a leg in movies. “I want to do more difficult steps now, not because other actors are doing it, but because I want to experiment,” he states, adding that he can strike a balance between his trademark thought-provoking cinema and feel-good outings. “During my theatre days, we used to tackle all genres — comedy, slapstick, drama and musical. I am the most comfortable doing comedy because I have done almost 100 plays in the genre. I was quite popular as a comedian.” Up next, the actor will display his romantic side on screen with Jogira Sara Ra Ra.
