Veteran actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty was reportedly admitted to a hospital in Kolkata after he complained of chest pain. According to a report in India Today, Chakraborty was feeling uneasy on Saturday morning. He was immediately rushed to the hospital and is currently undergoing treatment.

Mithun Chakraborty's family is yet to confirm or issue a formal statement.

Meanwhile, Mithun Chakraborty recently received the prestigious Padma Bhsuhan in January 2024. He has a rich career spanning five decades in the film industry. Having made his acting debut in Mrinal Sen's Mrigaya, Mithun is well known for his roles in films like 'Disco Dancer', 'Amar Deep', 'Dushman', 'Agneepath'. He established himself as a dancing star as well after the success of his role as Jimmy in the film 'Disco Dancer'. Mithun was a well-known star in Russia as well.

In a video message last month, the 73-year-old actor thanked and appreciated the honour of receiving the Padma Bhushan, "After a lot of struggle and hard work, I have finally received such an honour... It is a feeling I can't express. I am dedicating this to all my fans in India and abroad, who have given me unconditional love."

Till date, actor Mithun Chakraborty has won four National Awards, three of them as Best Actor -- Mrigayaa (1976), Agneepath (1990) and the Bengali film Tahader Katha (1992). Mithun Chakraborty also won the National Award for Best Supporting Actor for the 1998 film 'Swami Vivekananda'.

In an interview with ETimes last month, Mithun Chakraborty's son, actor Mimoh Chakraborty, expressed his happiness over Mithun's Padma Bhushan and said, "I have no words to describe this feeling of euphoria and joy. It is such an honour to feel this moment of pride... Dad is truly deserving of this award and I am so grateful to our government and institutions for honouring dad with this prestigious award. I am so grateful and full of joy right now. Touchwood."

On the work front, Mithun Chakraborty was last seen in the Bengali film 'Kabuliwala'. It was released in theatres in December 2023. The film has been directed by Suman Ghosh. While speaking to Hindustan Times Bangla about the film, Mithun said, "Kabuliwala is not just any film that I thought of doing casually. Although it's a Bengali film, it's important to remember that it's about an Afghan-speaking Bengali, not a Bengali-speaking Afghan. Nowadays, everyone observes everything very minutely, so this was a big deal. The film shows how an Afghan learns Bengali and speaks it with a mix of Hindi and Bengali."
