At a time when body-shaming and bullying are the easiest ways to target an individual, Huma Qureshi worked on a film called 'Double XL,' this film was about self-love and body acceptance.

During an interview, the actress acknowledged experiencing body shaming and being rejected for a part because of her weight. Huma Qureshi while talking to IANS explained how the story of 'Double XL' came to be.

"This movie started as a fun conversation with my friends and family. We were all in my living room, and all the actors were complaining about the 'post lockdown weight gain' and Mudassar Aziz wrote a story around it," said Huma.

The 36-year-old actress disclosed that the director of the film, Satram Ramani requested her to put on weight for her role in ‘Double XL’: "We were just eating and eating. It was just burger lao, pizza lao between action and cut," she said.

When asked how responsible is Bollywood for setting a benchmark for beauty standards, Huma blames the society for making people believe that a "certain weight is acceptable."

Actress Huma Qureshi shared that she was rejected for roles in the past due to her weight. The actress shared that she was body-shamed in a review for one of her films, "I got rejected due to weight and in a review of my film, someone wrote, 'Huma adds too much weight to be a mainstream leading lady'."

Huma Qureshi shared that she resonates with every woman who has been let down by their looks, size, or colour. The 'Bell Bottom' actress believed that her movie 'Double XL' would change the mindset of society in the long run. 'Double XL' also stared Sonakshi Sinha, Zaheer Iqbal and Mahat Raghavendra. It was released on November 4.

Huma has been making headlines for her role in the film ‘Tarla’ a ZEE5 Original film that follows the journey of India's iconic home chef, Tarla Dalal. The movie ‘Tarla’ has received rave reviews from both critics and fans. For the unversed, she made her acting debut in 2012 with 'Gangs Of Wasseypur' co-starring Manoj Bajpayee, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Richa Chadda.
