Thrills and chills ahead

Shamshera (2022) was not exactly the best follow-up project for Vaani Kapoor after the acclaimed Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui (2021). Putting the debacle of the period action drama behind her, the actor is excited to start her new project. Vaani has been signed on for Mardaani 2 director Gopi Puthran’s next. Sources tell us that she was blown by the narration and immediately agreed to lead the crime thriller. Pre-production for the yet-untitled movie is underway. The leading lady has begun prepping for the thriller that is scheduled to go on floors in March, in Lucknow. The producers are likely to make an official announcement after the title, principal cast and crew are finalised.

It’s a date!

It’s a date!

Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor have called off their April 7 date with the audiences. The release of their maiden collaboration, Bawaal, has been deferred. Director Nitesh Tiwari has shot the film in picturesque cities like Warsaw, Paris, Berlin, and Krakow. Since the VFX employed on the film will take a while, the makers are now looking for another suitable release date. As soon as Bawaal’s release was postponed, the makers of Aditya Roy Kapur and Mrunal Thakur’s Gumraah booked the empty window of April 7. Director Vardhan Ketkar’s Hindi remake of the Telugu hit, Thadam, features Aditya in a double role and Mrunal as a cop. The intense face-off between the two actors is said to be the highlight of the upcoming crime thriller.

Indian stars going gaga over international designers is passé. It looks like Manish Malhotra is reversing the trend, having styled Jennifer Aniston for Murder Mystery 2, which also stars Adam Sandler.  For her part as a bridesmaid, Jen wanted a lehenga that was contemporary, yet reflected the essence of Indian handicrafts. The thriller’s stylist Deborah McGuire, and Malhotra, who was sought out for the purpose, opted for the ivory colour as it was a beach wedding. The ace B-Town designer picked his signature chikankari lehenga. It took about three months to create the outfit with graduating rectangular motifs, intricately embroidered floral blouse with pearl droplets, and a handmade black tassel. The ivory chikankari lehenga is available exclusively on orders.

Before you wonder, let us tell you that the actor-singer has been signed on by Ekta Kapoor and Rhea Kapoor for their second joint production, The Crew, which stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Tabu and Kriti Sanon. Stating that this film has a special destiny, Rhea said, “We are thrilled to have Diljit join the cast, considering that he has a discerning eye for quality projects.” Directed by Rajesh Krishnan, the comedy — revolving around mishaps in the struggling airline industry — is slated to roll in March.

It also stars Kajol, and south actor Prithviraj Sukumaran in pivotal roles.  Previously, Ibrahim assisted Karan Johar on Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani.

A meaningful b’day gift

Jackie Shroff turns 66 today. To celebrate his special day, fans have opted to support social causes, just like he does. Overwhelmed to hear about inspiring his followers, Jackie says, “This makes you believe that there are indeed good people in society. To see my fans organising such community events and drives on my birthday is a gift I will never forget. I hope they continue the good work, and inspire others to do their bit, too.”

During a recent interaction with the media, Shah Rukh Khan shared that after Zero (2018), he utilised his four-year break to learn cooking. When he returned to face the camera, the actor, who specialised in Italian cuisine, would often treat Pathaan director Siddharth Anand to pizzas. “After a few days of shoot, I thought if Siddharth is not too pleased to collaborate with me, at least he would continue working with me for the sake of the pizzas I fed him,” SRK joked. While Deepika Padukone’s strict diet prevented her from indulging in his dishes, SRK added that co-star John Abraham would eat only a specific preparation of pasta. The superstar, in his trademark humour, added, “I tried it once, and it tasted like cardboard kept for years, served with some vegetables and seasoning. I won’t eat it again, and I want to tell John to stop eating the cardboard-like pasta, too.”
