Reunion times
Over 11 years since Jolly LLB (2013), Amrita Rao is set to reunite with director Subhash Kapoor and co-actor Arshad Warsi. She has reportedly joined the cast of the third edition of the courtroom comedy franchise, which sees Akshay Kumar and Huma Qureshi, reprising their roles from Jolly LLB 2 (2017). “Amrita, who played Arshad’s love interest Sandhya in the first instalment, plays his wife this time around,” says a source. After completing the ongoing shoot in Mumbai, the team will head to Delhi for the next schedule.
Finalising his next move
Sidharth Malhotra, who was last seen in Yodha, is looking at another action film. The actor is said to be teaming up with Tera Kya Hoga Lovely and web series CAT director Balwinder Singh Janjua for his next. While details of the plot are being kept under wraps, the yet-untitled film will also have a good dose of romance and drama. Pre-production is underway and the filmmaker is planning to commence shooting in September with a long schedule in Uttarakhand. Janjua is also working on a laugh-riot, Sab First Class, with Varun Sharma and Shehnaaz Gill.
From one clash to another
Vedaa, John Abraham’s next with filmmaker Nikkhil Advani, has been deferred to August 15. The action thriller, which also stars Sharvari, was slated to release on July 12. However, it appears that they wanted to avoid the three-way clash with Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2 and Akshay Kumar’s Sarfira. On the other hand, the new release date pits Vedaa against Allu Arjun’s highly anticipated offering, Pushpa 2: The Rule, which reunites him with director Sukumar and co-stars Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil. While Independence Day is a holiday window when makers hope to strike gold at the box-office, it remains to be seen how Vedaa stands against Pushpa 2, considering that the first edition, Pushpa: The Rise (2021) had demolished all competition on arrival.
Bachchan’s new cameo
Amitabh Bachchan, who had a cameo in producer-friend Anand Pandit’s Gujarati film, Fakt Mahilao Maate (2022), recently shot his scenes in its sequel, Fakt Purusho Maate. Excited about the collaboration, Pandit said, “Everyone on the set was awestruck by Mr Bachchan’s energy, dedication, legendary professionalism and his larger-than-life presence.” Recalling his special part in the first instalment, the producer admitted, “It is hard for me to imagine a project without him. Anyone who has worked with Mr Bachchan once, wants to work with him again and again.” Producer Vishal Shah added, “Mr Bachchan plays an interesting role that is also central to the story. His enduring stardom is a phenomenon that cannot be put into words and this film will show again why he continues to be a legend.”
