Only weeks after playing a mafia queen in Bambai Meri Jaan, Kritika Kamra will be seen treading on the right side of the law in Gyaarah Gyaarah. The actor plays a cop in the upcoming ZEE5 thriller, which is produced by Karan Johar and Guneet Monga. With the series, Kamra has realised her dream of working with the two reputed storytellers. “Working with such great minds in the industry is an honour. [I aspired] to work with makers who are backing such unique stories,” says the actor.

An official remake of popular Korean drama Signal, director Umesh Bist’s Gyaarah Gyaarah also stars Dhairya Karwa and Raghav Juyal, and plays out in three timelines—1990, 2001 and 2016. Kamra says before stepping into the shoes of a fearless cop, she built the character and her backstory as part of her month-long prep. She elaborates, “I had extensive coaching with Saurabh Sachdeva. We broke down my character—finding her defining qualities, her mannerisms, [figuring out whether] she is social or reclusive, and so on. Saurabh sir knows how to find the person behind the character. Over and above this, I learnt to drive a manual car as the series is [set in] a different [period]. We staged the scenes before we went to the set. By the time the filming started, we knew exactly how each scene would be.”
