'Gadar 2' features Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel as the leads

Choreographer Shabina Khan who has worked on the new version of 'Udd Jaa Kale Kawa' from 'Gadar2' featuring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, got into conversation with mid-day.com as she shared some exciting details. Read on to find out what to expect!
How did you bring a fresh take to 'Udd Jaa Kale Kawa?'

The pre-production started around October-November 2021. Planning the song took a long time because it is iconic and people all over the world have watched and loved the film. It wasn't an easy song to shoot and I could not treat it like a regular number, where you plan today and shoot tomorrow. I spend a lot of time even on my regular songs but this one was special. I wanted people to connect the song to the old 'Udd Jaa Kale Kawa' through it's visuals.
I brought in the lantern that was used to show Tara Singh looking at Sakina for the first time. He gives her a Taj Mahal statue as a gift in college, I brought in the sarangi that Tara had used while singing a song, other elements include the wedding dupatta and the pagri that Sakina had tied for Tara. These were important elements from 'Gadar' and I wanted them to be a part of my song.

People think that choreography is dance movements but it is actually getting the whole story together for the audience. I have also kept Tara and Sakina's chemistry in mind while choreographing the song.
What can we look forward to in the other songs of the film?
There is also 'Main Aaya Gaddi Leke' where you will see Sunny paaji dancing. You will see the family bonding again, every song is going to be a surprise.
Having worked with Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel in the past, what was the experience this time around?
I have worked with Sunny sir a lot during my time as an assistant choreographer and have worked with Ameesha too in the past. This time I met them as a choreographer and they were aware of my body of work, Ameesha is extremely fond of me. They were very happy to see my Power point presentation for each song.
What are your memories of the original 'Gadar?'
We were kids when 'Gadar' released but I watched it again after turning choreographer. With age and experience you look at the film differently. Being a big fan of Sunny sir and 'Gadar' I watch the film every year. Anil Sharma sir (director) was always by my side for whatever was required, he wouldn't say no to anything.
