Arun Govil is returning to the big screen after a long gap. Popularly known for playing the role of Ram in Ramanand Sagar's iconic television series Ramayan, he will be seen in Akshay Kumar's upcoming film OMG 2. The socio-drama directed by Amit Rai also stars Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam. OMG 2 releases on August 11 in theatres globally.

Ahead of OMG 2's much-anticipated release, Arun spoke to Mid-Day exclusively about the film and more. In the interview, the actor opened up about whether he sees a change in the level of acceptance in the Indian audience. Arun, who acted in the mythological film titled Shiv Mahima in 1992, said, "I don't see any difference in the audience and their level of acceptance. Films in general were made for years and they did watch good ones. Shiv Mahima was a pure mythological film whereas OMG 2 is a socio-drama. If films are well made, people will definitely watch them."

Talking about OMG 2's clash with Gadar 2, Arun laughed and said, "There’s no clash. If they're good, people will definitely come to theatres and watch. Even if 4 films are releasing together and are equally good, they will be successful. I wish the best for OMG 2 and Gadar 2. Many hands work on making a film and they put in their blood and sweat to create a story for the celluloid. They should be rewarded for their efforts."

Arun, who has been vocal about how films shouldn't hurt religious sentiments, shared that as an actor and a citizen of the country, he makes sure to not choose scripts that could intentionally or unintentionally trigger people. "Not just as an actor, but as a citizen of the nation, I would never agree to a film that could hurt the religious sentiments of the audience. I would also like to request other actors and filmmakers to refrain from committing themselves to something that could be unsettling for the audience. Don't insult anybody's religion," he added.

Known as television's most popular Ram, Arun is still worshipped by fans who look up to him as a God-like figure. Does it put extra pressure on him to choose projects carefully? He replied, "Not at all, I am not affected by that image. I lead my life normally and will continue doing so. I'm grateful for the love and respect people give me but the image of Ram doesn't bother me."
