Since mid-August, Abhishek Bachchan has been quietly shooting for R Parthiban’s Hindi remake of Oththa Seruppu Size 7 (2019) in Chennai. On Sunday, the actor wrapped up the solo-performance film that follows the protagonist who is the primary suspect in a murder case. While the original Tamil movie was widely acclaimed on its release, the adaptation — tentatively titled SSS7 — appears to have found an admirer in Amitabh Bachchan.

A trade source reveals that the megastar saw some rushes of the thriller when his actor-son had flown down to Mumbai, in late August, for a surgery. “After the shoot was wrapped up over the weekend, Amitabh and the director got together on a video call. The veteran actor congratulated Parthiban for his vision, and the experimental treatment of the film,” reveals the source. Abhishek has been deeply invested in the project from the word go — the actor had flown down to Chennai to initiate talks of a remake, even coming on board as a producer. The source adds, “The edgy film is a departure from Abhishek’s previous outings. He has worked hard on the role, shedding his star image to embrace the part.”

Now that the thriller is on the edit table, Parthiban is eager to show the final product to Bachchan. “I worked as an associate director to K Bhagyaraj on Aakhree Raasta [1986], and have been a great fan of Amitabhji. I want to see his reaction to SSS7,” says the director. He also wants to show his upcoming Tamil movie, Iravin Nizhal to the megastar. “It is a one-shot film with a runtime of one-hour-35-minutes. He liked the introduction piece composed by AR Rahman.”
