Deepika Padukone recently shared her thoughts on Indian cinema gaining recognition globally. With the success of "All We Imagine as Light" winning the Grand Prix at Cannes 2024, Deepika's remarks have drawn attention.

She mentioned that the increasing recognition of Indian cinema is not just about how we make films but also about the West becoming more receptive to our style of filmmaking.

Mom-to-be Deepika Padukone says the West is 'realizing there is a world outside of America'

“I don’t think we’ve drastically changed anything in India about the way that we work or the kinds of stories that we tell. I think we’ve always had interesting stories to tell, but I do think that what has changed is that the world has opened up to the idea of the East and India in particular and I think that’s the change — realizing there is a world outside of America,” Deepika Padukone mentioned to Deadline.

Deepika pointed out how the film "RRR" and the success of its song 'Naatu Naatu,' which even won an Oscar, have helped Indian cinema connect with a global audience, “I think the world has become smaller, and the world has come together and it’s really about telling great stories. Whether it’s working in Sweden or Bosnia, it’s about telling interesting stories that resonate for an audience across the world.”

According to Deepika Padukone, making it in Hollywood is a completely different challenge. She expressed that the Hollywood industry operates differently from Bollywood. Deepika made her Hollywood debut in 2017 with "XXX: Return of Xander Cage," alongside Vin Diesel. Reflecting on her journey, Deepika mentioned that it was a novel experience for her because she had never auditioned for a role before. Her fame skyrocketed overnight when Farah Khan cast her in "Om Shanti Om" without any auditions or tests.

“About a decade ago, when I started my journey in the West auditioning, it was a really new process for me because I’d never had to audition. I wasn’t a trained actor, and I never went to a fancy acting school — everything that I’ve learned has been on the job.”

Work front:

Meanwhile, on the work front, Deepika will next be seen in 'Singham Again,' the third instalment of Rohit Shetty's cop universe. Deepika steps into the role of Lady Singham alongside a stellar ensemble cast. Joining her are industry stalwarts including Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ranveer Singh, Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, and Arjun Kapoor.

But that's not all on her plate. Deepika is set to dazzle audiences in the sci-fi epic 'Kalki 2898 AD,' sharing the screen with Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Prabhas, and Disha Patani.
