According to an ETimes report, a magistrate court found Dalip guilty and punished him on the basis of a doctor's testimony, which confirmed the presence of alcohol odor and observed signs of unsteady walks, dilated pupils, and incoherent speech.
In September 2108, Dalip was arrested for being in an inebriated condition and hitting the back of an autorickshaw with his car. It injured two passengers — 21-year-old Khar resident Jenita Gandhi and Gaurav Chugh (22). As per The Hindu, the incident took place at around 9 p.m. back in 2018.
As per the report in The Hindu, "The impact of the collision caused Ms. Gandhi sustain a severe jolt to her back and neck. Ms. Gandhi and Mr. Chugh got off the autorickshaw and saw the car trying to flee towards Santacruz."
According to Nav Bharat Times, Tahil had attempted to escape the situation, but failed to go through because of a traffic jam and Ganpati immersions. He was booked for causing injury due to rash and negligent driving under the Indian Penal Code and for driving under the influence of alcohol under the Motor Vehicles Act.
Reportedly, back in 2018, a police inspector from Mumbai's Khar Police Station stated that when Gandhi, Chugh and Tahil were taken for a medical check-up, the actor had refused to provide a sample for the blood tests. He was out on bail due to lack of evidence.
Following his two-month suspended imprisonment sentence in a 2018 legal case, actor Dalip Tahil has now spoken up about the issue. In a statement to Bombay Times, he expressed his respect for the magistrate court's decision but clarified that the sentence is currently on hold. He further mentioned his intention to take the matter to a higher court for a more detailed review.
Dalip Tahil emphasized that this case is quite old, "If I had caused somebody grave injury, I would be the first person to beg for forgiveness." He made it clear that no significant harm occurred in this situation and added that he had no further comments to make. He concluded his statement by saying, “I respect the court, but we will appeal to the higher court.”
