What was the brief given to you for Maar Khayegaa?
For ‘Maar Khayega’ the brief was from Azeem Dayani who has supervised the music and with whom I have previously worked on the movie ‘Shershaah’ for the song ‘Jai Hindi Ki Sena.’ For this one we wanted to create a song as lethal and menacing as Akshay Sir’s character in ‘Bachchan Pandey.’ I had an idea that I played to Azeem and he instantly liked it. He was thoroughly involved in the making of the song and also a major portion of the lyrics are written by him. The ideas he gets on the table when it comes to the creatives are amazing. And then it was the magic touch of Eric Pillai that made our song sound so amazing. Farhad Bhiwandiwala is the lead singer and the writer in ‘Maar Khayega’ who previously sang and penned ‘Tera Baap Aaya’ for me.
How was the transition for you to work from making music for Sanjay Dutt’s character, to a Vidyut Jammwal to now Akshay Kumar?
The experience working with the best has been nothing short of amazing. Sanju sir is family to me and I owe so much him. Sanju sir has been that one person who always believed in me. I feel fortunate being a part of his biopic and creating ‘Kar Har Maidaan Fateh.’ Working with Vidyut was again a very happy moment for me and I’m thankful to Vipul Shah sir for letting me create ‘Tera Baap Aaya.’ Now working with Akshay sir for ‘Maar Khayega’ is definitely a special moment for me. He has been an inspiration and making music for him is truly special.
What was the team’s reaction after listening to the song?
The reaction was amazing and I’m happy that everyone who is a part of the film and even outside is loving the song. It feels very rewarding when your creations are in sync with makers and the listeners taste. It took us almost 10 days for the completion of the song as we already had the idea ready with us. We are very happy with the reactions and response.
